Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2010: Peter Weir’s The Way Back

Remember when Harrison For was trying to make an ice machine in Central America? Humans vs. Nature appears to be Weir's specialty and there's nothing better than an escape film in the great outdoors (this is set in Bulgaria, Morocco and India). I'm putting my money on Weir and that this film won't bite.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2010: Alistair Banks Griffin’s Two Gates of Sleep

Most recently invited to the NYFF 08's with his short Gauge, Griffin appears to be part of a collective of filmmakers worth keeping a very close eye on. There's an inkling of Days of Heaven, Ballast and Shotgun Stories (guns/open fields) and that's enough to get me interested.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2010: John Wells’ The Company Men

Last year it was Heslov, this year it's veteran indie producer John Wells trying his hand at feature film directing, and what an all-star team he's got in front of and behind the camera (Roger Deakins). Could be the ideal or better companion film to Reitman's Up in the Air.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2010: Steven Soderbergh’s Knockout

Honestly, I'm not sure what to make of his use of non-actors (moving from porn stars to cage fighters) who are celebrities in their own right, but like everyone else, I can't help but be impressed by Soderbergh's willingness to not typecast himself in terms of film narratives, styles and technologies.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2010: Tran Anh Hung’s Norwegian Wood

Two films in two years? Yup. I've yet to see what Tran Anh Hung did with Josh Hartnett in I Come with the Rain since it prety much remained in the whereabouts of the Pacific Rim, but I imagine he might make the most with a storyline set in the 60's because of his lush treatment with The Scent of Green Papaya and Cyclo. I've still got those box covers burned in my memory. Apparently the novel, is a recommended reading and with Rinko Kikuchi top-lining we might get somthing in the vein of The Dreamers.
