They kept a film crew for what I imagine would have been a cool postcard look back and perhaps a DVD release, but word from the music blogs today is that The White Stripes: Under Great White Northern Lights is supposed to close the next edition of the Toronto FIlm Festival.
Overture Films are Engaged to ‘Celeste and Jesse’
A dramedy that was reportedly set up at Fox Atomic last March, has actually become the latest pick up by Overture Films. Celeste and Jesse Forever which is currently in script phase was written by Will McCormack (Syriana) and Rashida Jones (I Love You, Man). I imagine that Overture will fast track the project for a 2009 start.
Corneliu Porumboiu Gives ‘Flying Lessons’ to Igor Cobileanski
Everything that Romanian director Corneliu Porumboiu touches is gold and/or silver (he claimed the Jury Prize this year for the Un Certain Regard selected Police, Adjective) so imagine the chance for an up-and-coming filmmaker to share screenwriting duties on a project that Porumboiu originally developed in Cannes Cinéfondation Residence (workshop for screenplays) and then to take that same screenplay and make it your feature length debut.
Desperately Seeking Studio: Antonio Campos’ Afterschool
Having already been to Cannes on two previous trips with his short films The Last 15 (which I was rattled by in a good way – watch it here) and Cinefondation winner Buy it Now) Antonio Campos got to make his third trip out with Afterschool in the Un Certain Regard section in 2008 and the film would appear at TIFF and the New York Film Festival in the fall.
Summit ‘Conjuring’ up Paranormal Thriller
If Chad and Carey Hayes' promising pitch to be turned into a script and then handed off to a filmmaker revisits 1970's Rhode Island and does its best to include elements such as brown carpeting, sideburns and corduroy pants, then I'm sure those who look back at original The Amityville Horror with admiration will look forward to getting the beejeebus with Conjuring.
