Sundance Leftovers: 5 Films Surprisingly Left Unclaimed
I originally wanted to get this grid up right after I was over and done with the festival, and now with the first slew of titles upon us, I thought it might be time to get this thing together. I asked fellow critics Comingsoon.net's Edward Douglas, Cinemablend.com's Josh Tyler, Slashfilm.com's Peter Sciretta and FilmSchoolRejects.com's Neil Miller to share their thoughts by grading the films they screened.
Tribeca Selections Part II
Apart from the world premiere of Michael Cuesta's Tell-Tale and one more festival screening and chance to shine for Hirokazu Kore-eda's Still Walking, the selections are comprised of unknown projects, New York-based film productions that were completed in the last year, a bunch of films that receive a May theatrical release anyways and a batch of better than average films that were showcased at Sundance.
Park City becomes ‘Coopers’ town
As I mentioned on the day that Geoffrey Gilmore moved East to Tribeca, I doubt whether there would have been a better candidate to take over the "second in command" spot. Accepting the post which basically allows him to flex a bit more muscle in the final programming and the overall direction of the festival, the Sundance Institute announced that John Cooper becomes the Sundance Film Festival's Director.
Filmmaker Ramin Bahrani’s Top Ten Films List
It was a little late in the game when I asked Ramin Bahrani (Man Push Cart, Chop Shop) to take part in our IONCINEPHILE of the month feature, so the exercise of asking Ramin to come up with his definite top ten was perhaps a little much to ask considering that this month happens to be a busy one for the filmmaker filling in requests from media and festivals for the upcoming release of his third film, Goodbye Solo [Roadside Attraction 03/27].
Daily Recommendation: Charlie Kaufman’s Synecdoche, New York
It's a tough nut to crack on a first viewing, second time proved to be a more fruitful experience, now I'm curious to see what I'll find on a third viewing. Kaufman's directorial debut is perhaps less accessible as say Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Synecdoche, New York was the year's biggest conundrum for many critics who simply didn't get it.
