Thanks to a wedding band on her finger she gets to acts out in her brother-in-law's and husband’s feature films, and though she probably doesn't have to go through the casting process like everyone else does would be underestimating what she can bring to a film character. Now in her 7th collab, Frances McDormand reminds viewers that aging gracefully is in the eye of the beholder (the one looking back at you in the mirror).
Top 10: Repeat Offenders in Charlie Kaufman and Catherine Keener
I’m cheating here since it’s difficult to call Synecdoche, New York a reunion between a director and actress especially when this is Charlie Kaufman’s debut as a director. She played a bitchy co-worker to Cusack in Being John Malkovich, and she plays herself in Adaptation – both directed by Spike Jonze, but penned by Kaufman. It certainly feels like Catherine Keener will be a long term muse for his future films and perhaps even some television work.
Top 10: Repeat Offenders in Woody Allen and Scarlett Johansson
As part of a quartet comprised of Cruz, Bardem and Hall, the curvy Scarlett Johansson takes less place than in her previous collaborations in Scoop and Match Point. Woody Allen uses her in a more age appropriate role -- youth culture/young American's discovery of self and the world around her. The camera loves her and we love looking at her.
