My absolute favorite poster of 2008 is a compliment to Fox Searchlight’s creative dept – they know how to nurture and visually promote their product. Here the knitted collage takes a classic symbol of Rock n Roll and a classic hobby that the grannies have perfected.

ionsgate love their poster marketing campaigns – but from what I saw with this docu - they stuck to a teaser and the final poster. Introduced at Tiff back in 2007, a love this poster the smiley face imprint of Bill Maher’s face into a burnt piece of toast that we’ve seen on the bookend of a couple of newscasts or as a hot Jesus item on Ebay.
Top 10 Posters of 2008: Choke
Perhaps the soap bar in the Fight Club poster slipped into this creation – here hot pink clashes well with the Rockwell’s outline. What I like is how it advertises the central character’s fixations and his compulsions into one mouthful.

While there is nothing original in the font, I’m a sucker for anything that approaches Saul Bass territory.
Top 10 Posters of 2008: In Bruges
Having visited the picturesque village in Belgium in my early 20’s, I think Focus hit the bull’s-eye with the notion that Bruges is indeed a “postcard” setting for this unique storyline. Along with the trimmed edges, I love the splashes of blood and I like the three-character panel which describes motivation and location in detail.
