Top 200 Most Anticipated Foreign Films of 2023: #69. Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool

Date:

Infinity Pool

NEON break in the new year with a title that we’ve been discussing on and off for some time now. Brandon Cronenberg’s first decade in cinema will have given us a couple of shorts and three feature films beginning with the Cannes Un Certain Regard preemed Antiviral (2012), Sundance-preemed Possessor (2020) and this January’s Infinity Pool – which sees the filmmaker re-team with his cinematographer Karim Hussain. Production would have taken place in September of ’21 and we imagine a little bit of work was needed in post for the EFX. Alexander Skarsgård, Mia Goth and Cleopatra Coleman are the film’s main trio.

Gist: James and Em Foster are enjoying an all-inclusive beach vacation in the fictional island of La Tolqa, when a fatal accident exposes the resort’s perverse subculture of hedonistic tourism, reckless violence and surreal horrors.

Release Date/Prediction: This is receiving its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, then receiving a domestic release via NEON followed by its international premiere at the Berlinale right after.
