Top 200 Most Anticipated Foreign Films of 2023: #164. Héléna Klotz’s La Vénus d’argent

Date:

La Vénus d’argent

From shorts, to docs and a 2012 feature film debut that premiered at the Berlinale (Atomic Age), Héléna Klotz‘s output has been a bit of everything. She was once a casting assistant on Cannes items such as Love Like Poison (2010) and My Little Princess (2011), but most recently she helped write 2021’s Madeleine Collins and she co-directed a docu called Hobbies (2020) which was co-written by 2022 Un Certain Regard winners Lise Akoka and Romane Gueret. In late October she began production on her sophomore project La Vénus d’argent with singer Pomme (her first role), Denis Ménochet, re-teams with Niels Schneider, Anna Mouglalis and Fianso signed on. Production on La Vénus d’argent took place in Corbeil-Essonnes, France with Les Films du Bélier’s Justin Taurand producing.

Gist: Co-written by Klotz, Noé Debré and Emily Barnett, Jeanne Francoeur lives in a dilapidated gendarmerie barracks. The daughter of a gendarme who has been beaten by life and the eldest of three children for whom she herself is responsible, Jeanne has banked on making a living in the world of finance, not for glory’s sake or for a life of luxury, but because it has helped her to escape the shackles of her background and to win her freedom…

Release Date/Prediction: We see this competing for the Golden Leopard in Locarno.
