Blasting onto the film scene with Ex Drummer in 2007 and followed by 22nd of May in 2010 and distinct opposites attract in Angel in 2018, Koen Mortier is good to go in ’23 with his fourth feature which was an Out of Competition work-in-progress selection at Les Arcs Film Festival last month. The book to film adaptation of Skunk was filmed October of 2021 with thesps in first time actor Thibaud Dooms, Natali Broods, Boris Van Severen and Dirk Roofthooft with Nicolas Karakatsanis serving as cinematographer. Czar Film’s Eurydice Gysel and Mortier produced what is coined as a pitch dark teenage drama.

Gist: This tells the story of Liam, a neglected teenager who lives in a family where alcohol, violence and sex play the main role. He grows up to be a confused youngster which ends in a very aggressive act to break with his past.

Release Date/Prediction: This could be a competition title for the Golden Bear at this year’s Berlinale.

Eric Lavallée is the founder, CEO, editor-in-chief, film journalist and critic at (founded in 2000). Eric is a regular at Sundance, Cannes and TIFF. He has a BFA in Film Studies at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. In 2013 he served as a Narrative Competition Jury Member at the SXSW Film Festival. He was an associate producer on Mark Jackson's This Teacher (2018 LA Film Festival, 2018 BFI London). In 2022 he served as a New Flesh Comp for Best First Feature at the 2022 Fantasia Intl. Film Festival. Current top films for 2022 include Tár (Todd Field), All That Breathes (Shaunak Sen), Aftersun (Charlotte Wells).
