Top 150 Most Anticipated Foreign Films of 2020: #144. Joint Possession – Leïla Kilani

Date:

Joint Possession

Morocco’s Leïla Kilani has been fastidiously working on her sophomore project Joint Possession since 2015 and looks to be a noted 2020 premiere. Produced by Emmanuel Barrault’s DKB Productions and Kilani’s own Socco Chico Films in Morocco, she debuted footage at the 2017 Cannes and Venice Film Festival, re-shooting sequences in 2019. Kilani’s 2011 debut On the Edge premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in Directors’ Fortnight. Kilani recently attended Marrakech Film Festival’s Atlas Workshops with the near completed project.

Gist: A family gathers at La Mansouria, the old family estate in joint possession on a hill in Tangier. The opportunity to sell a huge piece of the estate to a property developer will make them millionaires, but the transaction turns out to be more complicated than expected.

Release Date/Prediction: Currently in post-production, we expect Kilani to premiere at Cannes in 2020, potentially in Un Certain Regard.
