Top 100 Most Anticipated American Independent Films of 2019: #25. Babak Anvari’s Wounds

Date:

Wounds

Babak Anvari‘s Sundance break out debut in 2016’s Under the Shadow solidified his standing within the genre, and so it was no surprise that everyone took notice ultimately lassoing the filmmaker into two competing projects. The one that won is the cockroach infested book to film project by the Annapurna folks. Principal photography on Wounds took place back in April in New Orleans with Armie Hammer, Dakota Johnson, Zazie Beetz and Karl Glusman as part of the cast.

Gist: Based on Nathan Ballingrud’s The Visible Filth, the pic follows a New Orleans bartender who, after picking up a cell phone left behind in his bar, experiences a series of disturbing and inexplicable events begin to unravel his life.

Release Date/Prediction: Selected for the Midnight section at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival (premiere on the 26th), this is receiving a theatrical release in March via the Annapurna folks.
