2013 Cannes Film Festival: 100 Predictions

We can already consider 2013 to be an odd year for the Cannes Film Festival when Wong Kar-Wai, Pedro Almodovar and Lars Von Trier all have films in release and presumably, neither of them end up as Cannes Main Competition items (I’m still holding out on calling Nymphomaniac a no-show). Before Blake Williams, Nicholas Bell and I set out to make IONCINEMA.COM’s annual trip to the Cannes Film Festival (now in its 66th edition) we pooled and polled each other on what we think are locks, sure bets, dark horse and definite inclusions for the 2013 line-up. One hundred predix might appear to be a whopping amount – but we’ve included the popular sidebars of the Directors’ Fortnight and Critic’s Week (titles announced April 22nd) as well. Thierry Frémaux announces the program on April 18th and there will be tons of speculation as we get closer to that date, but for now, enjoy our countdown (or count-up) from our long shots and the dark horse picks all the way up to slum-dunk probabilities. He is a Golden Globes Voter.
