Palestinian filmmaker Annemarie Jacir, Canadian filmmaker Geneviève Dulude-De Celles, Brazilian filmmaker Ricardo Alves Jr., veteran Hungarian filmmaker György Palfi and Italian filmmaker Roberto Minervini are five filmmakers among the 62 projects selected for the 2023 edition of the Venice Gap-Financing Market (September 1st to the 3rd).
The filmmaker behind Wajib in Annemarie Jacir (who also has the book to screen project The Oblivion Theory in the works), will present All Before You at the market. Docu-fiction blending helmer Roberto Minervini (who is among the producers on Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine as Light) is going full fiction with The Damned. Best known for his 2006 film Taxidermia, we can finally say that György Palfi’s next project Hen looks to be in good posture – we expect the project to shoot within the next full year. Ricardo Alves Jr. will be presenting The French Teacher (among the producers we find the Les Valseurs folks who recently produced Nara Normande & Tião’s Sem Coraçao. Another project to keep tabs on is French Canadian filmmaker Geneviève Dulude-De Celles’ sophomore fiction. After Une colonie, she is now working on Fleur bleue which recently received some Telefilm coin. Eric Lavallée is the founder, CEO, editor-in-chief, film journalist and critic at IONCINEMA.com (founded in 2000). Eric is a regular at Sundance, Cannes and TIFF. He has a BFA in Film Studies at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. In 2013 he served as a Narrative Competition Jury Member at the SXSW Film Festival. He was an associate producer on Mark Jackson's This Teacher (2018 LA Film Festival, 2018 BFI London). In 2022 he served as a New Flesh Comp for Best First Feature at the 2022 Fantasia Intl.
