First graphic novels were being turned into films (Sin City), then memoirs (Running With Scissors), and now in a new genre all its own – the graphic memoir will have its place in the limelight. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Cate Blanchett is attached to star in Cancer Vixen: A True Story based on the book by Marisa Acocella Marchetto.

Marchetto, a cartoonist for Glamour and the New Yorker, wrote her autobiography around her trials with breast cancer while striving to maintain a fashionable lifestyle. The book, although it won’t be released until later this week, has already generated a fair share of buzz, paving the way for big screen success. Working Title currently owns the film’s rights and Blanchett and husband Andrew Upton are in discussions to produce.

Australian native Blanchett has a lot on her plate. The upcoming flicks Babel and The Good German have shot her to A-List status and made her performances some of Hollywood’s most anticipated.
