The Tribeca Film Festival in the Big Apple is currently in full swing, and many filmmakers are hoping to strike a distribution deal following the premiere of their labor of love. Another film picked up this week was Klitschko, a German documentary, by Sebastian Dehnhardt, about Vitaly and Vladimir Klitschko, a pair of World Champion boxing brothers. Corinth Films, a distributor mostly known for their handling of classic films and television series for broadcast on cable and satellite, have purchased the US rights to the doc. Klitschko had its world preem this week as part of the Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Panel.

Gist: The Ukrainian Klitschko brothers grew up in a lower class military family, and against all odds, they have both managed to attain Ph. Ds in Sports Science as well as becoming supreme World Champion boxers. Outside the ring they’ve become top notch German celebrities, often appearing on television and advertisements. The brothers also partake in charity work, and have recently started to dabble in politics.

Worth Noting: This may be Dehnhardt’s first foray into the feature film format, but he has had a lengthy career directing TV documentaries. Producer Leopold Hoesch has worked on a great number of projects with Dehnhardt, including the International Emmy Award winning TV doc, The Drama of Dresden.

Do We Care?: The story seems to be a classic rags to riches boxing story, but it features a pair of incredibly intelligent characters who could pummel just about anyone into submission. It kind of reminds us of Tyson, but with subjects who weren’t convicted of any major crimes. If Dehnhardt’s credentials, and Klitschko’s trailer are any indication, the production should please the hordes of boxing fans alike.
