Duncan Jones’ Source Code Commutes to SXSW for Opening Night Slot

Summit Entertainment have grabbed the coveted Opening Night slot at 2011’s SXSW, giving us one extra reason for us to head over to the film festival that runs in mid March. Duncan Jones’ Source Code will undoubtably perform well versus Hop, SUPER and Trust when it gets a theatrical release on April’s Fool Day. And if I understand the release correctly, Catherine Hardwicke will be at the fest, directing a workshop that stems from her latest film Red Riding Hood.

Gist: Written by Ben Ripley with a revision from Billy Ray, when decorated soldier Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) wakes up in the body of an unknown man, he discovers he’s part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. In an assignment unlike any he’s ever known, he learns he’s part of a government experiment called the “Source Code,” a program that enables him to cross over into another man’s identity in the last 8 minutes of his life. With a second, much larger target threatening to kill millions in downtown Chicago, Colter re-lives the incident over and over again, gathering clues each time, until he can solve the mystery of who is behind the bombs and prevent the next attack.

Worth Noting: After showing at Sundance with tremendous buzz, Jones screened his directorial debut at SXSW in 2009.

Do We Care?: Jones’ Moon was an exceptional debut, and working from a top Black List item assures us that he may have not made the mistake that many first-time directors do with their sophomore film, which is: make a lesser statement.
