Luca Guadagnino Shifts From Milan to the Mediterranean with ‘Corsica ’72’

Who better to film a 70’s love triangle in a sun-splashed Italian village than a director who painted romance and tragedy in vibrant Visconti-esque like hues with I Am Love. So Ruby Films producers Alison Owen and Paul Trijbits have decided to go all “Italian” with their mafia thriller, setting up Luca Guadagnino with Corsica ’72. He replaces Oliver Hirschbiegel who was previously attached for his action experience.

Gist: Scripted by Neil Purvis and Robert Wade, set in 1972, the film is based on the true story of a stand off between two former best friends, one a local man and the other, head of the Mafia.

Worth Noting: This was the number 2 top vote getter in the annual Brit List of 2009.

Do We Care?: This has certainly gone up several notches on our radar as we were of those critics that praised Guadagnino’s highly stylized melodrama — we actually caught it three times in the theater. Now my curiosity shifts towards the casting process: which actor will be picked for this very Italian story and will producers attempt to find an A-lister for international audiences?
