There has been speculation on the eventual release of Antichrist in the U.S. and how it will be offered in multiple versions (an integral and an edited down censored version) which I doubt will even occur since IFC Films if perfectly fine with releasing their films in NYC and L.A. and probably don’t care about the few theaters that would not carry the film.
This week’s Orange of the Week goes to responsible Film Classification systems whose agenda is to truly serve the interests of the public by correctly certifying films and doing their job: artistic merit defence. Sweden who seem to be decades ahead of the rest of humanity, actually decided this week, to eradicate the ratings board all together.
The British Board of Film Classification’s director David Cooke said “that the censor’s lack of intervention “reflects the principle — strongly endorsed in a number of public consultations — that adults should be free to decide for themselves what to watch or what not to watch, provided it is neither illegal nor harmful.” So chalk one up for British Board of Film Classification who basically leave it to Artificial Eye to present the film as was intended by Lars von Trier.
