Pedro on the Croisette: The Skin I Live Will Indeed Be Showcased in Cannes

Date:

Hours after Variety broke the story that the film was indeed going to be ready for Cannes, the highly coveted The Skin I Live In has been confirmed as part of the 2011 edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Pedro Almodóvar’s has been a V.I.P of the festival for the longest time and being that this is his most risky project and enters new territory with its change of genre — it was almost impossible not to imagine this anywhere else but Cannes. We expect this to play towards the end of the festival – we’re sure that he is putting the final touches on the film.

The Spanish filmmaker recently shared in his good news declaring: “I’m going to Cannes with the ambition to perform a good role in this worldwide rendez-vous, the most important of the cinema d’auteur, but I am not thinking about prizes. I am more interested in the audience reaction, the press and the distributors that will take charge of the film around the globe. I am very happy with the results of “The Skin I live In” and I have enormous curiosity to find out what will be the reaction at the festival´s varied core. That is why I accepted this invitation to participate at the Official Competition. Besides, Cannes always becomes a stimulus to get on diet.”

Almodóvar has competed for the Palme in three other occasions, in 1999 with “All About My Mother”, in 2006 with “Volver” and in 2009 with “Broken Embraces”. Along with Pedro and Woody Allen’s Spanish-produced film “Midnight In Paris” via Mediapro, we also find a little bit of Spain in Everardo Gout “Días De Gracia”. The Midnight Screening selected film sees Carlos Bardem, brother of Javier Bardem, star in the Mexican film.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for the sidebar sections for possible other films/co-productions from Spain.
