Spurlock’s ‘Greatest Movie Ever Sold’ Announced as Sheffield Doc Fest Opener

Date:

Best known for his grotesque look at the effects of eating fast food on the human body in the Oscar nominated Super Size Me, Morgan Spurlock’s latest film, POM Wonderful presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, will open the Sheffield Doc/Fest on June 8th in Sheffield, England. The film raises the curtains on the normally seamless advertisements inserted into major Hollywood films known as product placements, while 100% of the funding of the film was paid for by sponsorship. Spurlock will be on hand for the screening as well as a Masterclass session which will be held over the weekend.

The Greatest Movie Ever Sold screened at both Sundance in January and South By Southwest in March to rave reviews, and is also scheduled to open at the Hot Docs Festival in Toronto on April 28th at the Winter Garden Theatre. The film is being distributed by Sony Picture Classics for it’s limited US theatrical release which opens on April 22nd.

During the five day Sheffield Doc/Fest, 120 films and 300 speakers from around the globe are scheduled to appear, including Matthew Bate’s Shut Up Little Man: An Audio Misadventure, Marshall Curry’s If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front, Steve James’ The Interrupters, Ian Palmer’s Knuckle, and Andrew Rossi’s Page One: A Year Inside the New York Times. Tickets for the festival will go on sale within the next few weeks.
