TIFF 2009 Day 3: Paul King’s Bunny & the Bull

Date:

Having stuck it out until the end, I understand why there were a number of walk-outs during the P&I screening of Paul King’s debut film. I liken Bunny & The Bull to a child’s fantasy film, but this is clearly intended for adults with an appreciation for a very specific type of humor (fans of his Mighty Boosh show would know what this is). I don’t often use the Gondryesque term when talking about other filmmakers, but King fuels the comedy with an imaginative spark – cardboard cutouts included, if only the toy box came with a less tedious narrative. Not even Edward Hogg, who was a discovery for me with White Lightin’ early this year at Sundance, could keep this afloat.
