Date:

IONCINEMA.com Top 100 Films

#08. The Social Network

Director: David Fincher
Writer(s): Aaron Sorkin
Producers: Dana Brunetti, Ceán Chaffin, Michael De Luca, Scott Rudin
Distributor: Columbia Pictures.

The Gist: The film will focus on the evolution of Facebook from its 2004 creation on the Harvard campus by sophomore Mark Zuckerberg to a juggernaut with more than 60 million members. The film will cover how these unimaginable overnight riches changed the lives of Zuckerberg and his Facebook cohorts.….(more)

Cast: Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake, Brenda Song, Joseph Mazzello, Rooney Mara, Rashida Jones Andrew Garfield and Max Minghella.

Why is it on the list?: Fincher has made us afraid of the dark (Zodiac), afraid of growing old (Button) and now, perhaps afraid of becoming filthy rich. Should be interesting to see how Fincher visually and tonally treats a drama about how “fake” online friendships lead to the demise of real friendships.

Release Date/Status?: Columbia have slotted this as an October 15th release and might want to add a festival pre-release either at TIFF or BFI London.
