#56. We Have a Pope (Habemus Papam)

Director: Nanni Moretti
Writer(s): Francesco Piccolo, Federica Pontremoli and Moretti
Producers: Jean Labadie, Domenico Procacci and Moretti
Distributor: Rights Available.

The Gist: This is about a Pope (Michel Piccoli) who decides he doesn’t want the job as soon as he’s elected. Moretti will play a psychiatrist called in by the Vatican to resolve the problem…..(more)

Cast: Nanni Moretti and Michel Piccoli.

Why is it on the list?: I’ve been imagining Moretti play a shrink to the Pope ever since this project was announced. Never one to mince words, I appreciate his political sense of humor and matter of fact dialogue.

Release Date/Status?: Currently in pre-production, expect this to be a late fit for Venice or Rome Film Festival. SPC or IFC will surely make a bid.
