IONCINEMA.com Top 100 Films

#93. The Extra Man

Director: Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman
Writer(s): Pulcini, Bergman and Jonathan Ames
Producers: Stephanie Davis and Likely Story’s Anthony Bregman
Distributor: Rights Available.

The Gist: Based on Jonathan Ames’ novel of the same title, Louis Ives (Paul Dano) fancies himself a hero in an F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. He favors neckties, blue blazers, and sport coats. After an embarrassing incident involving a brassiere fetish, he loses his teaching job at a Princeton prep school and heads to New York to fulfill his dream of becoming a writer…(more)

Cast: Katie Holmes, Paul Dano, John C. Reilly and Kevin Kline.

Why is it on the list?: I think American Splendor fans are willing to let bygones be bygones, as their sophomore pic The Nanny Diaries didn’t cut it. I’m not sure what to make of this project, but I’m usually a fan of whatever producer Anthony Bregman attaches himself to.

Release Date/Status?: Sundance premiere followed by a sale from Wild Bunch followed by eventual release this year.
