#42. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Director: David Fincher
Writer(s): Steven Zaillian
Producers: Ceán Chaffin, Scott Rudin, Ole Søndberg and Søren Stærmose
Distributor: Columbia Pictures

The Gist: Based on Stieg Larsson’s posthumously published crime thriller trilogy, “The Millennium Series.” The book describes the mystery surrounding the long-unsolved disappearance of an heiress. Journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Craig), recently dinged by a libel case, and young female hacker Lisbeth Salander (Mara) try to resolve it, stirring up bundles of personal and industrial corruption along the way. Robin Wright will play Erika Berger, the publisher of crusading finance magazine “Millennium,” and the occasional lover of journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Craig). Martin Vanger (Skarsgard) is one of the principal suspects in the 40-year-old disappearance of a teenage girl.….(more)

Cast: Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Stellan Skarsgård, Robin Wright and Christopher Plummer

List Worthy Reasons…I don’t really care for the material on which this is based on, but snobbery aside, Fincher might actually take a good shot at this and make me likely make me want to catch this premiere night with fellow goth fans and book club folks alike. We know how good of an actress the original Liz is (Hollywood has come knocking on Noomi Rapace’s door) let’s just hope that this doesn’t come across as a copycat remake but instead as interesting as the transformative process that Rooney Mara underwent for the role.

Release Date/Status?: Columbia Pictures will make a killing with its December 21st date.
