Tree of Life to make an ‘Apparition’ via Pohlad and Berney

Date:

After months of not knowing what to call their new distribution co., Bill Pohlad and Bob Berney’s venture is simply called “Apparition”, and as I had speculated beforehand, The Tree of Life (which Pohlad produced with River Road) will be a brimming new title in their library, which until now only includes Jane Campion’s Bright Star.

The THR report unfortunately doesn’t have any further news on Malick’s film and whether it will be a 2009 or 2010 release. One thing is for sure, with a full marketing team already in place, and December bookings for theaters still open, there is nothing stopping them from issuing the highly anticipated film with an Oscar campaign release. In the mean time, we can look forward to catching sight of the new logo before the Toronto Film Festival – the North American launch pad for Campion’s gorgeous film.

The pair employed words such as “fiercely independent, artist friendly distributor.” TIFF will be a good place to see just how much collateral their new operation has – I wonder how fierce the pair will be on the acquisitions front this early on. We welcome you to the market place – we need more examples like this who won’t fall by the waste side.
