Weekend Rental: The Decline of the American Empire

Date:

Tomorrow the Cannes film festival will close with a film from Canadian filmmaker Denys Arcand. This is not his first visit at the festival; way back in 1986 he brought what was to be the first in a trilogy of films. The Decline of the American Empire was about female and male relationships in contemporary society. Arcand would revisit the cast of characters almost two decades later – Les Invasions Barbares was also showcased at Cannes and it best up some awards as well. Tomorrow The Age of Ignorance (L'Âge des ténèbres) receives its world premiere, and for those who aren’t making the trek to the south of France can visit some of the themes that Arcand loves to indulge in.

This weekend we suggest: Denys Arcand's The Decline of the American Empire.
