That is because this Dark Horse Comic, created by Mr. HellBoy himself, Mike Mignola, is not being made into an indie film on a 500$ budget, but rather it’s become an artictistcally faithful animated TV pilot for the Sci-Fi Channel!! “Yuk” you say?

Well, surprise!!! Bet you weren’t expecting coverage on a property such as “The Amazing Screw-On Head” (read the synopsis below to know more on its plot). That is because this Dark Horse Comic, created by Mr. HellBoy himself, Mike Mignola, is not being made into an indie film on a 500$ budget, but rather it’s become an artictistcally faithful animated TV pilot for the Sci-Fi Channel!! “Yuk” you say? Yeah well, that was my knee-jerk reaction as well, but wait dear boy (and girl… and pluralize those if there’s more then one of each sex reading this), there’s more! Mr. Sideways himself, Paul Giamatti, voices the the man of the same name as the title (aka title role). And, more still, you have to respect the fact that the story line is quite… unusual (which translates here to 1 out 50 people will probably find this comic “neat”).
The show looks great (if you like Mike Mignola’s art… click here to see more) and reminds me of what MTV did with The Maxx series (check it) when they turned that into an animated series. So, all that to say, check it out for yourself… Sci-Fi channel posted the entire pilot online!!!! In this hilarious send-up of Lovecraftian horror and steampunk adventure, President Abraham Lincoln’s top spy is a bodyless head known only as Screw-On Head. When arch-fiend Emperor Zombie steals an artifact that will enable him to threaten all life on Earth, the task of stopping him is assigned to Screw-on Head. Fortunately, Screw-On Head is not alone on this perilous quest. He is aided by his multitalented manservant, Mr. Groin, and by his talking canine cohort, Mr. Dog. Can this unorthodox trio stop Emperor Zombie in time? Does Screw-On Head have a body awesome enough to stop the horrors that have been unleashed? Where can we get a talking dog? All these questions (O.K., maybe not that last one) will be answered when you watch the thrilling tale of The Amazing Screw-On Head! |
