For the record. I don't care much for Garrel's work and in his lengthy filmography, I've only seen his last three. I do enjoy difficult, French films especially dramas that tackle a strained relationship and told in reverse order. If done right, it picks up the slight changes in the dynamic of the relationship, those cues will be done with very little dialogue in this film.
I guess Louis Garrel has a lot to be thankful for. Not only has his father paved the way for the actor (some might argue that Christophe Honoré has done a better job) but he is also hooking up his son for an onscreen tragi-romance with the curvaceous Monica Bellucci. While I can already hear the post Cannes press screening hissing sounds on this one, I think this might be an easier sell for the New Wave auteur who has a reputation for making difficult, often inaccessible films for even the most committed art-house patrons.
The young filmmaker is in the financing stages of his next project, a Canada-France co-production that would only allow the filmmaker to make a cameo appearance as the lead has been locked up by Louis Garrel, and now helping out with the funding, the name of Nathalie Baye has been added to the cast. Baye will take on the role of the mother in Laurence Anways.
WKW is definitely not ready. Pedro isn't feeling the pressure to deliver and according to Screen Daily, Terence Davies, Andrea Arnold and Philippe Garrel would apparently still be stuck in post and would be tipped for a Fall premiere.
