Now in it's second year, Sundance's NEXT section which helps put the spotlight on low and no-budget films is stacked with familiar names and faces and of the eight we predicted Andrew Dosunmu's Restless City and Joshua Leonard's The Lie.
From The Blair Witch Project to The Freebie, actor Joshua Leonard has been a much appreciated presence in Park City. There is no other place on the fest circuit where we could imagine seeing him unveil his feature narrative directorial debut. With filming having been completed almost one year to the date, and populated with Sundance folk in Jess Weixler, Mark Webber, Kelli Garner and Jane Adams, I expect Leonard had ample time to prep The Lie for a fest premiere.
Hot off the heels of a huge SXSW premiere and with a Grand Jury Prize win to boot, Adam Leon's feature debut has been picked up by the folks at IFC and keeping with a stellar month of March, it'll be highlighted at the New Directors/New Films festival which officially kicks off this week. While no release date has been mentioned, we expect Gimme the Loot to show this summer with, if lucky, an international premiere at a sidebar such as Cannes Critics' Week.
