The ‘Creation’ of a New TIFF?

An indication that Atom Egoyan's Chloe will most definitely find a competition slot in Venice, TIFF has uncharacteristically went with a foreign English language title as the film festival's opening night selection. The spot usually reserved for a Canadian film went to Jon Amiel's unsold Creation which will have its world premiere on the 10th of September.

Looking Ahead: 2009 Venice Film Festival Line-Up Predictions

A sub-par edition of Cannes might signify a better than average year for the heads of the Venice and the Toronto Int. Film Festival. I'm sure Venice's Marco Müller and TIFF's Piers Handling and Cameron Bailey are already making some tough decisions as we speak. Since I'm already looking forward to the Fall movie going season and festival editions, I thought I would speculate on some of the titles that should be unveiled at these stalwart festivals.

Weekly Eye Candy: 42 Below One Dream Rush

The pitch is simple. The line-up is impressive. 42 directors explore their dreams (add fantasies and day dreams to the signification of dreams) in 42 seconds. As a trailer that announces the project, this merits our Eye Candy mention of the week. Sponsored by the vodka brand 42 Below, so far, the site is far from the magical number of 42 participants, names like Lynch and Carlos Reygadas have yet to post their contribution, but a quick look around and we can find some noteworthy pieces such as Alishan which includes a mode of transportation, something that always seems to be found in my dreams.
