Luz

Hong Kong filmmaker Flora Lau finds her sophomore film Luz headlined by none other than Isabelle Huppert. Produced through AMA Productions, the Chinese-French co-pro also features the work of Chilean DP Benjamin Echazaretta (who lensed Sebastian Lelio’s Gloria and A Fantastic Woman) with production design from Mila Preli (of Angelin Preljocaj & Valerie Muller’s 2016 film Polina, and also art director of Mia Hansen-Love’s 2018 Maya). Few details have been released but Sandrine Pinna and Kung Fu star David Chiang are also in the cast. Lau’s 2013 debut Bends premiered in Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival.

Gist: Huppert plays the lead, and apparently, she’ll face off against her computer-generated avatar.

Release Date/Prediction: Lau filmed Luz at the end of 2018 and was expected to pop up somewhere on the 2019 circuit. We’re predicting Lau receives a premiere at the 2020 Berlin International Film Festival, we’d assume to compete for the Golden Bear.
