Interview: Michal Blaško – Victim

In anticipation of the upcoming 95th Academy Awards, I spoke with Michal Blaško, whose debut film Victim is Slovakia’s official submission in consideration for the Best International Feature Category. Teaming with several collaborators with whom he’s worked on short projects and in television, Blaško shares the considerable creative process which went into the evolution of his theatrical narrative debut. A prescient study on fluctuating xenophobic shifts in relation to Ukrainian immigrants in Slovakia, Blaško speaks to straddling a grey zone of unintentional period piece and contemporary subtexts.
