A touching, sober, political and poignant text on femicide, Mexican filmmaker Natalia León‘s debut Como si la tierra se las hubiera tragado plunges us into two times, two versions of self as Olivia returns back to her Mexican hometown, seeking to rediscover her roots and connect with her past. Winner of the Short Film Jury Award for Animation, I had the opportunity to sit down with Natalia while in Park City to discuss her technical approach, how she intermixed her voice with that of the author with an overview of some of the embedded symbolism.
