In Nicholas Bell’s sit down with the distinguished French actress Isabelle Huppert, who is currently promoting the U.S. release of Paul Verhoeven’s Elle, we exclusively learned that the actress will once again work Benoît Jacquot on the remake of Joseph Losey’s 1962 film Eva. As we mentioned in our intro, they’ve worked on several projects beginning with 1981’s The Wings of the Dove and most recently on, 2009’s Villa Amalia. The 1962 film starred Jeanne Moreau.
Gist: The original film was about a raw Welsh novelist (Stanley Barker) in Venice who is humiliated by a money-loving Frenchwoman (Moreau) who erotically ensnares him. Here is the NYTimes review.
Worth Noting: Jacquot last directed Mathieu Amalric, Julia Roy and Jeanne Balibar in the Don DeLillo adapted Never Ever – which premiered in Venice.
Do We Care?: 2017 is already a stacked year for Huppert. She’ll next been seen in the latest films from Hong Sang-soo and Michael Haneke, Serge Bozon’s Madame Hyde, Laura Schroeder’s Barrage and Frank Hudec’s The Sleeping Shepherd. We can add Oscar night gala in the possible mix as well.
