Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2010: Miguel Arteta’s Cedar Rapids

Backed by producers who have a distinct taste for untypical comedy formulas, I'm betting that the original spec - a top 5 finalist in this year's Black List, will offer Arteta (Chuck & Buck and The Good Girl) the golden opportunity to prove he's good at directing comedy -- here's hoping that middle America comes across as "authentic" and not clichéd.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2010: Doug Liman’s Fair Game

With Liman specializing himself as a action man, the ensemble of factors as to why I'm looking forward to the film have nothing to do with who is behind the camera. With Participant Media on board, 21 Gram duo Watts & Penn playing real folk - this has the potential of being a hard-hitting commentary on how people on the inside get rid of problems.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2010: Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland

Burton has set the standard for mixing macabre, the highly imaginative and eye candy spectacle but I don't think "big-budget" and grandiose have served Burton well in the recent past. From what has been shown so far, I don't think we'll need to go into this chemically challenged route - let's hope that this strikes the right balance: with an emphasis on the performances.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2010: Rowan Joffe’s Brighton Rock

Joffe has proven himself as a strong voice: he began his career as a scribe for Pawel Pawlikowski's Last Resort, expanded a franchise with 28 Weeks Later and helped adapt The American for Anton Corbijn (also coming out this year and on this list). If core of the featured relationship between a thug and waitress comes across unscathed, then we'll be talking about Carey Mulligan for a good portion of 2010.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2010: Taylor Hackford’s Love Ranch

Hackford's film has been on the radar for a while now, but it has more to do with the proposed tandem of Mirren and Pesci and the site specific backdrop than my interest in the filmmaker.
