Christine Jeffs Feels ‘Wonderful Tonight’
Going from darker to what appears to be lighter material, helmer Christine Jeffs is following up features of a tortured writer, and a pair of sisters torturing themselves to the torture of having one in the oven. Wonderful Tonight is either a romantic drama or a rom com that sounds awfully close to the premise of Knocked Up. Variety reports that Jeffs has signed onto direct for Castle Rock Entertainment (Michael Clayton, Did You Hear About the Morgans?).
Lemon of the Week: Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli
Kudos go to the producers who have the insight to hire a two time in three years Oscar-nominated screenwriter (The Queen and Frost/Nixon) but the reason why I'm handing the Lemon of the Week to Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli is for their loyalty to the screenwriting pair of Neal Purvis and Robert Wade who will once again work with the incoming scribe that is hired.
Orange of the Week: Brits Leave Antichrist Untouched
There has been speculation on the eventual release of Antichrist in the U.S. and how it will be offered in multiple versions (an integral and an edited down censored version) which I doubt will even occur since IFC Films if perfectly fine with releasing their films in NYC and L.A. and probably don't care about the few theaters that would not carry the film.
Looking Ahead: 2009 Toronto Film Festival Line-Up Predictions
Usually reserved for the bigger films and Oscar buzz titles, the Galas and Special Presentations section in Toronto should be populated with: the long awaited thriller from Richard Kelly (The Box), Julie Taymor's The Tempest starring Helen Mirren and coincidentally it would make sense for her hubby Taylor Hackford to bring Love Ranch for show. Part of the Canadian contingency, Jason Reitman has confirmed it himself that he'll bring Up in the Air and perhaps a spot would be reserved for Jean-Marc Vallee's Berlin preemed The Young Victoria.
Looking Ahead: 2009 Venice Film Festival Line-Up Predictions
A sub-par edition of Cannes might signify a better than average year for the heads of the Venice and the Toronto Int. Film Festival. I'm sure Venice's Marco Müller and TIFF's Piers Handling and Cameron Bailey are already making some tough decisions as we speak. Since I'm already looking forward to the Fall movie going season and festival editions, I thought I would speculate on some of the titles that should be unveiled at these stalwart festivals.
