2012 Sundance Predictions: Christopher Neil’s Goats

While cinephiles await "Coppola" output this year from Roman (who is finally going to second his GQ debut) it is Francis Ford's nephew Christopher Neil who may get to showcase his coming-of-age comedy first. After holoding onto the book rights for almost a decade, this is already in the can and has an ensemble of Sundance vets (Vera Farmiga, Ty Burrell, David Duchovny, Keri Russell , Minnie Driver, Justin Kirk and Dakota Johnson) and features what could be the fest's breakout star in the young Graham Phillips. Look for Goats to perhaps receive a Premieres showing.

2012 Sundance Predictions: Julius Onah’s The Girl Is in Trouble

We can bet that this picture is a lock --- a 2012 debut was probably a more accurate prediction for a festival premiere to Julius Onah's debut feature. I predicted that The Girl Is in Trouble and the Filmmaker Mag 25 New Face Onah would be in Park City -- that production still stands. If this has an edgy, mean streak in it, a Park City at Midnight showing would be welcome.

2012 Sundance Predictions: David Riker’s The Girl

It has been a long time coming for David Riker's sophomore to arrive - like Derek Cianfrance we're talking more than a decade between 1998's La Ciudad and next year's The Girl. Riker did make a blip at the fest for co-writing the award winning Sleep Dealer and this border crossing drama was workshopped at Sundance in 2007 and was one of the 2009 Sundance NHK Filmmaker Award winners. This should receive a U.S Dramatic Comp. showing.

2012 Sundance Predictions: Jenny Deller’s Future Weather

Knowing how Redford feels about the environment and films that promote responsibility of mother earth, Sundance programmers have probably been tracking this title for some time now. Multiple grant winner of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Jenny Deller's three generational tale/environmental drama has got some strong indie pedigree such as Lili Taylor among the cast and on the tech side, they've got dp Zak Mulligan who did some great work on Obselidia - a Park City entry back in 2010. Nominated for a new Gotham award this year, we think Future Weather is possibly a good fit for the U.S Dramatic Comp.

2012 Sundance Predictions: Jay Gammill’s Free Samples

An item we could easily see in the U.S Dramatic Comp, Jay Gammill's quirky dramedy comes equipped with familiar Park City faces Jess Weixler, Jesse Eisenberg and Jason Ritter, legend Tippi Hedren and on the tech side had cinematographer Reed Morano (Frozen River, Little Birds).
