The Oscars have announced the shortlists in 12 categories for the upcoming 98th ceremony. Wicked: For Good and Sinners topped the list with eight mentions each across different categories. Frankenstein followed closely with six mentions, while Sirât, One Battle After Another, and F1: The Movie earned five apiece. Marty Supreme and Train Dreams were each recognized in four categories. Other films appearing multiple times on the shortlist included Hamnet, Sentimental Value, and One Battle After Another. In our favorite category: the International Feature list, apart from the six Golden Globe nominated films (aka the Neon 5 plus Hind) (The Secret Agent, It Was Just an Accident, Sentimental Value, No Other Choice, Sirât and The Voice of Hind Rajab) there is another horse race trying to secure spots seven to fifteen. No real surprises in seeing Left-Handed Girl, Palestine 36, Sound of Falling, Homebound and The President’s Cake crack the list with potential dark horse selections being Argentina’s Belén, Japan’s Kokuho, Jordan’s All That’s Left of You and Switzerland’s Late Shift. Films that we thought had better odds include Calle Málaga by Maryam Touzani, The Tale of Silyan by Tamara Kotevska and My Father’s Shadow by Akinola Davies Jr. Here are all the categories.
