Lionsgate Search High & Low for Phil Alden Robinson’s “The Angriest Man in Brooklyn”

Aiming to beef up their 2014 slate with a title they feel will work well as a day and date theatrical/VOD type release, Lionsgate Films have picked The Angriest Man in Brooklyn – a rush thru traffic/fight against time archetype comedy featuring/pitting Robin Williams vs Mila Kunis. Indie vets Melissa Leo, Peter Dinklage and Hamish Linklater complete the supporting cast.

Gist: Written by Daniel Taplitz, this is the story of Henry Altmann (Williams), who is having a horrible day, made much worse by his visit with Dr. Sharon Gill (Kunis), who abruptly informs him that he only has 90 minutes to live. After storming out of the hospital in disbelief, Henry panics and races through Brooklyn in an attempt to right all of the wrongs in his life, while Sharon desperately scrambles to find him and get him into surgery.

Worth Noting: This is Robinson’s first film in more than a decade – The Sum of All Fears was his last picture. He was quoted as saying that “when I read Dan Taplitz’s amazing screenplay I laughed and cried until I realised that I wanted so much to see this film that I was actually eager to spend a few years of my life getting it made.”

Do We Care?: Up until this acquisitions announcement, we were leaning towards a Sundance unveiling – our interest level is directly attached to Williams – who can demonstrate flash of brilliance in the odd role.
