Sweet Dreams

Bosnian-Dutch filmmaker Ena Sendijarević first landed on the scene with Take Me Somewhere Nice – it premiered in the Tiger Competition in Rotterdam winning a Special Jury Award. Prior to that her 2016 short film “Import” premiered in the Quinzaine. Production on her sophomore film took place in June of last year in Indonesia. Produced by Plattform Produktion & Lemming Film’s Erik Glijnis, Sweet Dreams digs into colonialism and a sugar crisis and what happens when the cat is away and mice come out to play.

Gist: This details the story of Agathe and Siti, two women left to their own devices following the death of Jan, patriarch owner of a sugar plantation. Agathe, his wife, and Siti, the housekeeper, mother of his illegitimate son. A family reunion ensues. When his illegitimate young son turns out to be the only heir, it’s every man, woman, child, plant and animal…

Release Date/Prediction: The team might be looking to preem in Cannes but we feel this could land a spot at the Locarno Film Festival.
