Top 150 Most Anticipated Foreign Films of 2020: #68. Des hommes – Lucas Belvaux

Date:

Des hommes

Belgiumā€™s Lucas Belvaux has assembled one of his highest profile casts in some time with his latest feature Des hommes (Home Front), which reunites him with his Une Trilogy (2002) stars Catherine Frot and Jean-Pierre Darroussin who will be joined by Gerard Depardieu and Yoann Zimmer. Produced by David Frenkel and Patrick Quinet, Belvaux employs Bruno Dumontā€™s recent favored DP Guillaume Deffontaines (who won a Cesar for his work on Slack Bay and also filmed Jeannette, the Childhood of Joan of Arc, Coincoin and the Extra Humans, etc.) to lens. Belvaux, a five-time Cesar nominee (including for acting, writing and directing) competed in Cannes with his 2006 title The Right of the Weakest.

Gist: Adapted from a novel by Laurent Mauvignier (whose Keep Going was recently adapted by Joachim Lafosse), Home Front follows two soldiers who were on the front lines of the Algerian War who, forty years later, are forced to confront their past.

Release Date/Prediction: Belvaux began production in Morocco in April 2019. Many of Belvauxā€™s more recent titles have had premieres at smaller international festivals (2014ā€™s Pas son genre premiered at COLCOA in Los Angeles and 2017ā€™s This is Our Land opened in Lyon just prior to a Rotterdam showing). Des hommes could potentially be Belvauxā€™s first stint in Berlin.
