Top 200 Most Anticipated Films for 2014: #121. Larry Charles’ A Walk In the Woods

A Walk In the Woods

Director: Larry Charles
Writer: Michael Arndt
Producers: Wildwood Entertprises’ Robert Redford and Bill Holderman, Route One Films’ Chip Diggins.
U.S. Distributor: Rights Available
Cast: Robert Redford and Nick Nolte

The type of comedy that will likely reject the Robert Redford brave-stance in All is Lost, Larry Charles has had three tries with Sacha Baron Cohen and we’ve yet to see the darker, subversive material we’ve been looking for…but something about two gents in the great outdoors not seeking some kind of spiritual quest sounds like a place that Alexandre Payne might visit and might be refreshingly authentic. A Walk In the Woods will also be an occasion to see what Little Miss Sunshine writer Michael Arndt can bring to the table as well – we’re hoping for a mix of situational funny and wry approach to companionship.

Gist: Based on Bill Bryson’s 1998 book “A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail,” this recounts his attempt to walk the Appalachian Trail, which runs from Georgia to Maine, with a friend.

Release Date: Announced in late ’13, they’re still clearing the brush on this heading towards what will be an early start date and a Toronto premiere.
