Top 200 Most Anticipated Foreign Films of 2023: #138. Vinko Tomičić’s Perros

Date:

Perros

A promising France/Italy/Bolivia/Mexico/Chile co-production on paper that was selected at Venice Biennale College Cinema, the 38th Cannes The Residence (2019) and EAVE Puentes, Vinko Tomičić moved into production on his directorial debut in August of 2021. The Chilean filmmaker saw Alfredo Castro, Franklin Aros and Wolframio Sinué take on a simple tale of a young orphan shoeshine boy in La Paz who thinks a client could be his father. Perros (which is also known as “The Dog Thief”) is produced by Machete’s Edher Campos and Zafiro Cinema’s Gabriela Maire.

Gist: Martín is a 13-year-old orphan shoeshine boy from La Paz, Bolivia, who has lived his entire life in the streets with the hope and desire to find his father. Driven by this desire and his imagination, Martin begins to suspect that one of his best clients is his father; Mr Novoa, a lonely tailor whose only emotional bond is his dog, Astor, a fine German shepherd whom he cares for like a son.

Release Date/Prediction: Critics’ Week might be in the running for this debut.
