2018 PYIFF Dailies: Cities of Last Things Inside the Ancient City | Day 4

2018 PYIFF Dailies: Cities of Last Things Inside the Ancient City | Day 4

The less than fifteen minutes flat walk from the hotel dwelling to festival venues is quite something to marvel in terms of passage of time. In thinking of a film functioning outside of film, my second helping of Cities of Last Things and its three era time lapse within the context of this festival is extra special.

It’s almost comical how the two wheel transportation will whiz by with all of its modernity into the gate portion opening in what was a major center financial center for the whole of China. Circa 14th century, the Ancient City of Pingyao and its ancient walls, streets and lanes, shops and temples is a journey into surreal. You’ll pinch yourself visually measuring the past and present. Here you’ll find my daily walk and you’ll find a small walk down South Street.

Filmmaker Wi Ding Ho would show up a little later during the day, so it was supporting players in Ning Ding and Hong-Chi Lee (his 2018 is stellar with appearances in Long Day’s Journey Into Night and Baby) who were present for the 11:30 a.m. press conference Cities of Last Things.
