Date:

IONCINEMA.com Top 100 Films

#48. Cedar Rapids

Director: Miguel Arteta
Writer(s): Phil Johnston
Producers: Jim Burke, Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor
Distributor: Fox Searchlight.

The Gist: Helms will play a sad-sack insurance agent who goes to an industry convention to try to save the jobs of his colleagues.…(more)

Cast: Ed Helms, Sigourney Weaver, Alia Shawkat, Anne Heche and John C. Reilly.

Why is it on the list?: Backed by producers who have a distinct taste for untypical comedy formulas, I’m betting that the original spec – a top 5 finalist in this year’s Black List, will offer Arteta (Chuck & Buck and The Good Girl) the golden opportunity to prove he’s good at directing comedy — here’s hoping that middle America comes across as “authentic” and not clichéd.

Release Date/Status?: Fox Searchlight might do a test screening here and there and measure what kind of campaign they want for this knee-slapper.
