Top 100 Most Anticipated Films for 2015: #2. Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie

Date:

Chappie

Director: Neill Blomkamp
Writers: Neill Blomkamp, Terri Tatchell
Producers: Sony Pictures Entertainment, Alpha Core, Media Rights Capital
U.S. Distributor: Columbia Pictures
Cast: Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver, Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel

Blomkamp reunites with his District 9 screenwriter, this time around for a sci-fi comedy. The early casting of the members of Die Antwoord certainly had increased anticipation for the project, though recent headlines about considerable drama caused by Ninja on-set, resulting in a decreased role for the performer, hopefully will be the last snafu Blomkamp experiences. Otherwise, with cast members like Jackman and the incomparable Sigourney Weaver, this promises to be one of the most anticipated releases of 2015 (and perhaps will be less divisively received as Elysium). While details remain scant, other than the fact that Chappie the robot is voiced by Blomkamp muse, Copley, it will be intriguing to see what the end product is.

Gist: After being kidnapped by two criminals during birth, Chappie becomes the adopted son in a strange and dysfunctional family. Chappie is preternaturally gifted, one of a kind, a prodigy. He also happens to be a robot..

Release Date: Theatrical Release set for March 27, 2015. Next: Our number 1 pick…
