Alternative TIFF 2010 Picks: #6. Álex de la Iglesia’s The Last Circus

Date:

#6. Balada Triste (The Last Circus)

Director: Álex de la Iglesia
Cast: Antonio de la Torre, Carlos Areces, Carolina Bang, Santiago Segura, Fernando Guillén Cuervo, Fran Perea, Sancho Gracia
Distributor: Magnolia Pictures

BuzzTo be unveiled on the Lido and to be presented in San Sebastian after TIFF, things are certainly looking good for this twisted, dark comedy especially if Magnolia Pictures, a distributor who usually jumps on finished films, bought the pic still unfinished. If you’re not sold on the sequences below, then let the buzz from Venice do the convincing.

The Gist: Álex de la Iglesia’s genius for dark humour is at its most eloquent in his latest parody about the Spanish Civil War. Two clowns attack and disfigure one another in jealous rages over a beautiful dancer. In the name of love, they destroy the very object of their affection.

TIFF ScheduleTuesday September 14 9:45:00 PM SCOTIABANK THEATRE 1
Wednesday September 15 2:00:00 PM AMC 7
Sunday September 19 9:15:00 PM AMC 3
