He is in post-production with Snow Angels. He is in pre-production with Goat. Now comes word that David Gordon Green (for those you don’t know him by name – he last directed Undertow) just sold a spec script to Universal. Weird thing is: it’s a comedy. Where does David find the time?

He co-wrote it with Danny McBride – the co-writer of Foot Fist Way (which I managed to miss at this year’s Sundance cuz of my bad schedule-making skills) he also acted in DGG’s All the Real Girls as the guy who hits on the younger sis of the film’s protagonist.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Green and McBride sold a high-concept family comedy pitch which Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer will produce, while Jon Heder and his brothers Dan and Doug are in negotiations to executive produce via their Greasy Entertainment banner. Heder starred in Napoleon Dynamite – a favorite of Green.

Not to sound misleading, the spec has nothing to do with time travel but for us X-Geners might find that this one goes back in time. Mr. Machine is described as a throwback to the high-concept Amblin family comedies of the 1980s, revolves around three brainy slackers who build a robot that wants to take over the world.
