Doubt John Patrick Oscars

#14. Doubt

Director/Writer:
John Patrick
Shanley

Producers: Scott Rudin (Revolutionary Road, Stop Loss, Margaret)
Distributor: Miramax Films

The Gist: Written by Shanley, this is based on the Off Broadway’s Manhattan Theater Club play. Set in 1964, “Doubt” centers on a nun who confronts a priest after suspecting him abusing a black student. He denies the charges, and much of the play’s quick-fire dialogue tackles themes of religion, morality and authority.

Fact: Shanley wrote “Moonstruck” and both wrote and directed “Joe Versus the Volcano”.

See It: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Meryl Streep and the very talented Amy Adams make up this powerhouse cast and all dressed up funny (priest and nuns!).

Release Date/Status?: Currently filming, Miramax have many “in-contention” possibilities this year and have pegged this with a December 5th release date.
