Alexandra Cassavetes Sinks Fangs in ‘Kiss of the Damned’

If you don't count TV doc Z Channel: A Magnificent Obsession, we can finally say that Xan Cassavetes has joined her sis, her bro and her pops as a feature filmmaker. In fact, Variety reports that her debut film, Kiss of the Damned has already wrapped and had French thesps Josephine de la Baume (bit role in Gavras' Our Day Will Come and soon to be seen in Confession of a Child of the Century) and Roxane Mesquida (Catherine Breillat regular) and Milo Ventimiglia toplining.

TIFF 2010: Masters Cannes offerings and Palme d’Or Winner, plus Trio from Venice

You can call this year's Masters section the "re-showing of old filmmaker favorites from Cannes". Plenty of the names selected here Godard, Lee Chang-dong, Ken Loach, Manoel de Oliveira and Palme D'or winning Apichatpong Weerasethakul were expected to show up, added to the Cannes titles we have a trio from Venice in: Takashi Miike's 13 Assassins, Jerzy Skolimowski's Essential Killing and Catherine Breillat's The Sleeping Beauty. The one world premiere is from Amos Gitai (Roses à Crédit).

Sasha Gray Will Make you ‘Melt’

I'm not sure if there have been cross overs from porn to mainstream cinema, but it appears that for one actress in particular, working in both worlds might be a valid option. Catherine Breillat had Rocco, and now, both Steven Soderbergh and Mark Pellington will have employed the services of Sasha Gray, the adult film star with some gnarly film titles in her filmography. So the The Girlfriend Experience will not have been a "token" experience after all.

At the end of the day, the goal of IONCINEMA.com is to celebrate and promote the process, and this is why Ismailos' Great Directors might interest our readers - she interviews such auteurs as Bernardo Bertolucci, Stephen Frears, Agnes Varda, Ken Loach, Liliana Cavani, David Lynch, Catherine Breillat, Richard Linklater, Haynes and Sayles.

Usmonov Offers a ‘Novel’ Idea for Seydoux and Gourmet

In less than five years, Léa Seydoux has worked with the best of auteur cinema and dabbled into a little Hollywood as well. She had a small part in chapter one of QT's Basterds and Ridley Scott's Robin Hood, but she has made a name for herself by working with the likes of Christophe Honoré, Bertrand Bonello, Catherine Breillat, in Jessica Hausner's Lourdes and Raoul Ruiz's latest film. She'll next work for a little known filmmaker for North American audiences in director Djamshed Usmonov's first French-language film.
